Make a vertical video with a 9:16 timeline

To make a vertical video in Kublaro, choose 9:16 in the editor's export aspect ratio selector, arrange your clips and export. The final MP4 is 720 × 1280 at 30 fps. Fill frame (crop) uses a centered crop, so landscape footage can lose content at the sides. Fit entire clip keeps the complete source with black borders.

Before you start

Prefer portrait footage or scenes with the key subject near the center. Decide which platform or placement will receive the file and confirm its current upload requirements there. Format selection sets the frame; it does not automatically follow a moving subject.

A practical example

Turn a centered product demo into a portrait edit

A landscape source shows a product in the center with extra space on both sides. In 9:16, keep the product centered and trim away the setup. If a hand or a second product is near the left edge, it may disappear in the vertical crop. Choose another source shot when that edge content is essential.

How to do it in Kublaro

  1. Choose 9:16 first

Open the editor and set Export aspect ratio to 9:16 before placing titles.

  2. Add suitable media

Add portrait clips or centered scenes. Check each shot. Use Fill frame (crop) for a centered crop or Fit entire clip to preserve the whole image with black borders.

  3. Make the opening clear

Trim slow starts and arrange the main action early. Keep only the footage that helps someone understand the sequence.

  4. Place short titles

Use manual text that fits the narrow frame. Check that top or bottom placement does not collide with important visual information or the destination's playback controls.

  5. Export and verify the crop

Save, export the MP4 and inspect every scene in the 720 × 1280 file. Confirm the subject remains visible throughout the action.

Check your final MP4

  • The downloaded MP4 is portrait and each scene keeps the essential subject.
  • Text is readable on a phone and does not cover important action.
  • The destination accepts the file's dimensions, duration and encoding.

Common mistakes and how to fix them

Expecting automatic reframing
Fill uses a centered crop and Fit preserves the complete image with borders. Neither mode tracks a face, pans toward a product or extends missing edges with AI.
Assuming a ratio preserves every edge
A landscape clip has a wider field than 9:16. If the edge contains essential content, use portrait source footage instead of relying on the crop.

Questions about this workflow

What size is the vertical export?
The current 9:16 timeline export is 720 pixels wide and 1280 pixels high, as an H.264 MP4 at 30 fps.
Can the editor follow a moving person automatically?
No. Fill uses a centered crop; Fit preserves the full image with black borders. Neither mode offers motion tracking or automatic subject reframing.
Can I also make a horizontal version?
Yes. Switch to 16:9 and export a 1280 × 720 version. Check the crop and title placement again because the same source appears differently in each frame.
